Yep...China is currently lightyears ahead.

USA needs to commit billions to the 'rare earth education sector'. This is not even a 'thing' at the moment. But if the west is to decouple....who is going to staff it?

Maybe Trumps's defunding universities might be a little short sighted? Or maybe he can take that funding and build new mining and mnaufacturing schools all across USA?
 
btw....i think that the universtities currently teaching subjects that align with the oil and gas industry are well suited to picking up the 'rare earth education' gap. Most of the processing is similar in nature to oil and gas.

So who are the big 'oil and gas' universities? Maybe they can pivot and help with this crisis. And it is a crisis.
