So for background:
- Chinese investors linked to Chinese Govt, wanted to take over NTU.
- Australian Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) said no. And told the Chinese investors they had to divest some of their holdings.
- These investors sold the shares to other people (looked to be related to the original Chinese investors)
- Again FIRB said no to the take over and told them to divest.
- These new investors then sold all the shares to some shell company that had just been formed for a few weeks
- And now this ASX notice saying....job done.
WHAT A JOKE.
This is blatent manipulation by China to try to secure rare earths for themselves.
Did I also mention that NTU was hacked after the second FIRB direction?
This uncertainty of what will happend next with this shareholding by the new shell company in Hong Kong has a couple of effects:
- It makes it difficult to invest in NTU with this ongoing saga
- It impacts the NTU share price
- It impacts their ability to attract finance
- If they have to do a capital raise, the lower share price will have a higher dilution
- it means that NTU is further away from producing....
So if China can't have the rare earths (which FIRB said no), then China plays these games to that NTU can not compete against them and bring ex-china supply to market.
The Australian Government (and Treasury in particular) need to fix this mess. China are using all our own rules against us, to stop ex-china supply of rare earths coming into production.
Can you imagine if the same thing was happening in China? The Chinese Govt would just take our shares.....gone...no process....catch ya later.
Yet we allow them to continue this....at the cost of current shareholders.
I don't own NTU, but with all this drama...i am not going to invest. So i feel very sorry for the current shareholders.
