Look, I get the outrage over public money propping up billionaire-backed mines — it sounds bad. “Billions for billionaires” makes a great headline. But what if that’s just the price of finally building something the private sector ignored for decades?

Arafura’s Nolans project sat idle until Gina showed up with cash and clout. Suddenly, federal funding floods in. Same thing with Lynas in Texas — DoD doesn’t get involved unless someone serious is holding the wheel.

So yeah, maybe it is a co-investment model. She brings iron ore profits, government brings the risk capital. If it works, we get magnets. If it fails, taxpayers get burned. That’s the deal.

And let’s be honest — every crisis ends up enriching someone. If it’s not Gina, it’s some revolving-door bureaucrat cashing in after office. At least with her, we know exactly who’s benefiting
