China's stranglehold is less coercive than headlines would have us believe. Most all of China's strength is its willingness to tolerate the incredibly toxic processing and the use of cheap human labor. The cost and availability of the energy required is significant.

If China squeezes the West too tightly, we will see the market discover alternative supplies and diversification. manufacturers, and investors, will take that risk if the strain gage hits the right number.
